Thomas was recommended to the R.I.C. by George Evers, who may have been a large landowner, and was a J.P., from the Newtownforbes area. Evers appears to have had his residence in Mindard townland, which is on the main road from Newtown to Longford, but is close to Longford town.
MarriageHe married Ellen Kilrane, daughter of Bernard Kilrane and Mary Ann Kelly, on 11 Oct 1875 at Gortletteragh R.C. Church, Gortletteragh, Cloone Civil Parish, Co Leitrim, Ireland. The witnesses were Thomas Burke and Ellan Kelly. Note that Ellen's age at marriage was stated as 23. On Thomas's R.I.C. record the date is given as 10th October.
MarriageThomas Gannon married Margaret McGrath on 22 Feb 1887 at Co Galway, Ireland. Thomas is shown as marrying a second time on his R.I.C. service record. His second wife's name was Mary according to the 1901 Census but Margaret McGrath according to an IFHF transcription of his marriage record.
