BirthJohn Geelan was born circa 1850 at Clooneagh, Mohill Civil Parish, Co Leitrim, Ireland.
DeathHe died on 6 Sep 1875 at Mohill Hospital, Boeeshill, Mohill Civil Parish, Co Leitrim, Ireland. He died of blood poisoning following a broken leg when apparently thrown off a horse-car. John worked as Accounts man for a Mr McGarry. He was coming back from Ballinamore, on 1st September on a car (horse drawn) when the horse seemed to bolt. When Geelan was found he was lying on the ground and had a broken leg with a Compound fracture. He was taken to the Workhouse hospital, but died there on the 6th. It seems he died of blood poisoning. There was some suspicion that a Mr Faughnan had something to do with the horse bolting and thus contributed to the death.
